Our Charter was first established on Oct. 14, 1926. The installation
of officers was held at the South Side Civic Hall. The Chairman of the evening was the Commander of VFW Post 516 Frederick
H. Boyd. Edward Johnston was installed as the first Commander of VFW Post 1469. In 1931 John P. Swezey spearheaded the
negotiations to purchase the Community House on School St. to become the Post's first home. It was originally built for a
school and was used for that purpose until the completion of the Roosevelt school on Lowndes ave. The Ladies Auxiliary of
the Nathan Hale Post was Instituted on Jan. 21, 1927 Madam President Vera E. Tewey was the first Ladies Auxiliary
President. With the expansion of the population and urban development, the Town of Huntington bought the property and it became
a municipal parking lot. Ground broke at 210 West Pulaski Road, our present location in 1955 with Wolfgang Nauke as the new post
first Commander.
